Begusarai (Bihar): A tragic incident unfolded in Bihar’s Begusarai district on Saturday evening, as a 25-year-old woman, along with her father and brother, were fatally shot, allegedly by her father-in-law. The heartbreaking event occurred in Bishnupur Ahuk village within the Sahebpur Kamal police station area.
The victims have been identified as Neelu Kumari (25), her father Umesh Yadav, and her brother Rajesh Yadav, all hailing from the Sreenagar area of Begusarai district.
According to SHO Deepak Kumar of Sahebpur Kamal police station, the incident occurred during an encounter between Umesh Yadav, accompanied by his son and daughter, and Neelu Kumari’s in-laws. Apparently, upon seeing them, Neelu Kumari’s father-in-law became enraged, leading to a heated altercation. Tragically, the confrontation escalated when the father-in-law allegedly drew a gun and shot the three victims at close range, resulting in their immediate demise.
The perpetrator fled the scene following the shooting, prompting law enforcement to initiate a search operation to apprehend him.
The village mukhiya, Subodh Kumar Yadav, disclosed to reporters that the incident was rooted in a case of forced marriage, commonly referred to as ‘pakadua shaadi’. This practice involves abducting and marrying men against their will. Neelu Kumari’s in-laws purportedly refused to take her to their home even two years into her marriage, leading to prolonged tensions.
Senior police officials have arrived at the scene, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
