A video of Santosh Jarkiholi, son of BJP MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi, firing a gun in the air during a public event has gone viral, triggering public concern and police action.

The incident occurred on Saturday during the Mahalaxmi fair in Gokak, Belagavi district, as part of the Okuli celebrations at the Bhandara. Surrounded by a large crowd, Santosh was seen discharging a firearm into the air while his supporters cheered and shouted slogans.

Following the video’s circulation on social media, Gokak city police registered a suo motu case against Santosh Jarkiholi under the relevant sections of the Arms Act and for public endangerment.

Authorities have stated that they are investigating whether the weapon used was licensed and whether any permissions were taken for using it at a public gathering.

The incident has sparked debate over VIP entitlement, misuse of firearms during cultural events, and the lack of enforcement of public safety norms.
