BALLIA (Uttar Pradesh): The body of a 22-year-old man was found under mysterious circumstances near a railway crossing in Ballia district on Tuesday morning, police said.
According to officials, the deceased was identified as Sonu Chauhan (22), a resident of Sahatwar town. His body was discovered lying close to the Sahatwar railway crossing, raising suspicion of foul play.
Police investigation underway
Upon receiving information, the local police team from Sahatwar police station reached the site and took possession of the body. Authorities said that preliminary examination did not reveal any immediate signs of injury, but the cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem report is received.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem examination. We are awaiting the report to ascertain the exact cause of death,” a police officer said, adding that further investigation is underway to determine whether it was an accident or a case of foul play.
Local residents alerted authorities
Local residents who spotted the body near the track early in the morning alerted railway officials and the police. The discovery led to a brief commotion in the area before authorities arrived and cordoned off the site.
Police are also checking CCTV footage from nearby areas and railway premises to trace Chauhan’s last movements. His family members have been informed and statements are being recorded.
Awaiting autopsy report
Officials said the post-mortem report will be crucial in establishing whether Chauhan’s death was accidental, suicidal, or homicidal. The body has been sent to Ballia district hospital for examination.
Authorities have assured that all angles, including possible enmity or personal disputes, will be probed.
