Mumbai: Bombay High Court Judge S.C. Dharmadhikari, the second senior-most judge in the High Court, announced on Friday that he has resigned.

Justice Dharmadhikari made the announcement of his resignation in the open court, when lawyer Mathew Nedumpara mentioned a petition seeking for the court to hear it next week.

“I have demitted the office. Today is my last day,” Justice Dharmadhikari told in the court.

The resignation has been sent to President Ram Nath Kovind, though the reasons for his quitting are not yet clear.

Justice Dharmadhikari became a Judge in the Bombay HC in November 2003 and was due to be elevated as Chief Justice.
