Border Tensions Surge: India’s Operation Sindoor Sparks Retaliation, OTT Crackdown
Tensions between India and Pakistan reached a peak following multiple drone-led incursions along the International Border, prompting sirens and blackouts in Jammu. These developments came just hours after India confirmed the neutralization of a Pakistani air defence system in Lahore, part of its measured retaliation to Pakistan’s attempted strikes on Indian cities. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called the Pahalgam terror strike the first major escalation, triggering India’s response under Operation Sindoor.
The ripple effects continued across sectors. In a sweeping decision aimed at protecting national interests, the Union Government directed all OTT and media streaming platforms to remove content originating from Pakistan, including web series, songs, films, and podcasts. The advisory highlighted concerns over cross-border terror linkages, especially in light of the Pahalgam attack.
On the diplomatic front, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, reiterating that while India seeks no escalation, any attack on its sovereignty will be met with a decisive response.
In a post-operation briefing, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated that Operation Sindoor had successfully eliminated over 100 terrorists in Pakistan and PoK. The announcement came during an all-party meeting in Delhi, where top ministers including Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S. Jaishankar discussed national security strategies.
Adding to the day’s high-stakes events, a major technical failure due to a power outage led to the cancellation of an IPL match in Dharamshala, underlining the wider impact of regional instability.
