In an act of exceptional bravery and individual valor, a female BSF constable at the Rangaghat border outpost of the 68th Battalion in West Bengal heroically defended herself against a group of illegal Bangladeshi intruders on July 30.
During her shift in the CCTV control room, the constable observed 13 to 14 intruders armed with knives and swords trying to cross the International Border (IB) from Bangladesh into India.
As the intruders advanced, she swiftly moved towards them and issued a verbal warning. However, the intruders continued their approach, breaching Indian territory and surrounding her. Despite the arrival of a fellow jawan who threw a stun grenade to disperse the attackers, the intruders remained persistent.
In a crucial act of self-defense, the constable fired a shot at the assailants, compelling them to retreat back into Bangladesh under the cover of darkness. The weapons recovered from the scene confirmed the attackers’ hostile intentions.
This incident marks the third consecutive attack along the India-Bangladesh border in just three days. The BSF has identified this as part of a concerning trend of assaults on their personnel, often involving cattle smugglers from Bangladesh.
In response, the BSF has lodged strong protests with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and filed preliminary reports with local police. Despite numerous flag meetings, there has been a lack of effective action from the BGB, which seems to have further emboldened the intruders.
