“Broken by the Rails”: French YouTuber’s Cautionary Tale of Indian Train Travel
French content creator Victor Blaho has sparked conversation online after issuing a stern warning to global travellers—“avoid long-distance train journeys in India.” His statement comes from his own experience: a grueling 46-hour journey across the country that, in his words, left him “broken.”
In his YouTube vlog, Blaho documented a travel route stretching from Mumbai to Varanasi, Varanasi to Agra, and finally, Agra to Delhi. He tried multiple classes—Sleeper, Third AC, and more—to gauge the true face of Indian Railways. What began as a cultural exploration quickly turned into an exhausting test of patience and hygiene.
Blaho’s footage reveals over-crowded coaches filled with noise, cramped spaces, and visibly dirty compartments. The most disturbing moments included spotting a rat scurrying across the floor, soon followed by a cockroach—highlighting serious sanitation issues. In another clip, he shows piles of trash strewn around the cabin, telling the camera, “It’s very dirty, it smells.”
While many travelers romanticize India’s iconic rail journeys as cultural adventures, Blaho’s video sheds light on the stark contrasts that exist. For first-time visitors expecting comfort or Western standards, his message is clear—prepare accordingly or rethink your travel mode.
His raw and honest review has resonated with many viewers, reigniting debates on the need for cleaner, safer, and more tourist-friendly railway services in India.
