Madhya Pradesh: In a bizarre and amusing incident that has gone viral on social media, a buffalo in Dadar village of Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district climbed up a house to escape heavy rain — and got stuck on the roof, prompting a crane rescue that left villagers stunned and amused.
A surprising rooftop guest
According to locals, the incident occurred on Thursday, July 11, when the region witnessed heavy rainfall, leaving the village roads slippery and muddy. In an apparent effort to escape the rain and the muck, a buffalo took an unusual path — it climbed the stairs of a house and made its way onto the roof.
The sight left villagers scratching their heads. “We couldn’t believe our eyes. A buffalo standing on a rooftop is not something you see every day,” said one local.
Chaos, laughter and a rescue operation
News of the buffalo’s rooftop adventure spread quickly, and within minutes, dozens of villagers gathered around the house, many laughing and recording videos of the strange scene.
However, amusement soon turned into concern when it became clear that the buffalo could not find its way down. Despite repeated efforts by villagers to coax the animal back down the stairs, the buffalo remained stuck — apparently confused and scared by the height and unfamiliar surroundings.
Eventually, local authorities were contacted for help.
Crane to the rescue
Responding to the unusual SOS, the local administration arranged for a crane, and a team of rescuers carefully tied the buffalo with ropes to lift it off the roof. The entire operation, captured on video, shows the animal being gently lowered to the ground amid cheers from the gathered crowd.
Fortunately, the buffalo was completely unharmed and is in good health, officials confirmed. “There were no injuries. The animal was safely brought down with the help of the crane,” said an official present at the scene.
The internet reacts
Videos of the incident have since gone viral on social media, with users sharing the clip widely under captions like “Only in India!” and “Buffalo takes shelter with style.” Memes and jokes have flooded Twitter and Instagram, with many calling it the “most desi monsoon moment of the year.”
