Calls for justice grow louder as more victims emerge in Pahalgam terror attack
J Chandramouli, a retired bank employee from Visakhapatnam, tragically lost his life in the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. Reports indicate that he was chased and shot while attempting to flee, pleading for his life before being gunned down. His body was later found by fellow tourists at the attack site. Upon hearing the heartbreaking news, Chandramouli’s family set off for Pahalgam from Visakhapatnam.
The attack, which claimed 28 lives and left many injured, targeted tourists in the Anantnag district, shaking the region’s fragile peace. In response, security forces have launched intense search operations to track down the attackers. The usually bustling tourist destination of Pahalgam now has deserted streets, with heightened security presence across the area.
In the wake of the attack, several organizations have called for a Jammu bandh to express their anger and grief. Some tourists have even decided to cut their vacations short. Sameer Bhardwaj, a Delhi tourist, said he and his group were leaving Pahalgam for Delhi due to the escalating situation.
National Conference leader Shekh Bashir Ahmad condemned the attack as a conspiracy to destabilize Jammu and Kashmir’s economy, emphasizing that such acts aim to disrupt peace and harm the tourism industry, which the region heavily relies on.
In the aftermath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened an urgent high-level meeting with top officials to address the situation, as security forces swiftly responded to assist the victims.
