Disturbing CCTV footage from a home in Rajasthan’s Jaipur has surfaced online, allegedly showing repeated domestic violence against a woman before she died by suicide earlier this year.
The woman, identified as Anu, was married to Gautam Meena, an executive engineer in the Public Works Department, since 2015. The couple had two children.
CCTV footage captures alleged assault
According to the woman’s family, Anu faced continuous harassment and physical abuse from her husband, often when he returned home drunk.
The CCTV clips reportedly show Gautam Meena shouting at Anu, pulling her hair and assaulting her in front of their young son. In another clip, he is seen punching and breaking a television during an argument.
Anu’s daughter later told reporters that she had witnessed her father assaulting her mother several times but remained silent out of fear.
“He used to come home drunk. My mother used to stay quiet. Even then he thrashed her,” the child said.
Family alleges long-term harassment
Anu’s brother claimed the family had been worried for a long time after she repeatedly complained about the abuse.
He said Anu had once come to stay with her children for a few days after being beaten by her husband.
Their 10-year-old son also reportedly told investigators that his father frequently assaulted his mother and blamed her during arguments.
Police investigating footage
Anu died by suicide on April 7. Reports said she made a video call to her husband shortly before taking the extreme step.
Neighbours rushed her to hospital, but doctors declared her dead.
Police have registered a case related to harassment and domestic violence and are currently examining the CCTV footage as part of the investigation.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns over domestic violence and the emotional trauma faced by women and children inside abusive households
