A disturbing CCTV clip from Patiala, Punjab, has gone viral, showing the moment a 7-year-old child was struck by a speeding motorbike shortly after stepping off a school bus. The video, widely shared across social media, has triggered renewed demands for stronger road safety measures near school bus stops.
According to a post shared by Punjab Kesari on X, the incident occurred on a narrow rural road where a school bus had stopped to drop children home. As the child stepped off and moved towards the side of the road, the bus briefly obstructed the view of oncoming traffic. A motorcycle travelling at high speed emerged from behind the bus and collided with the child.
The footage shows bystanders rushing towards the child while the motorcyclist also fell upon impact. However, details about the child’s condition have not yet been officially released.
The incident has highlighted the lack of basic safety infrastructure on the stretch, including:
- no warning signage,
- no speed breakers,
- unsafe drop-off points, and
- no traffic-calming measures near school bus routes.
The video has reignited public debate on the urgent need for road safety education, stricter enforcement of speed limits, and designated safe zones for school transport — especially in rural and semi-urban areas where such measures are often absent.
