New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government, as per a report by ANI, has requested the Central government to transfer the Unnao rape survivor’s road accident case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

After the car accident on Sunday, wherein a witness in the case (one of her aunts) died and the lawyer and the rape survivor herself sustained severe injuries, several political leaders of the opposition demanded that a free and fair probe be conducted into the accident.

The rape survivor and her lawyer are currently being treated at a Lucknow hospital and are said to be critical.

The Uttar Pradesh police, on Monday, informed that the case of the death of the Unnao rape victim’s relatives in the road accident would be transferred to the CBI.

According to ANI, a murder case stands registered against BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, his brother Manoj Singh Sengar and eight others in connection with the road accident.

It can be recalled that the teenaged girl was allegedly raped by Bangarmau MLA Sengar at his residence in Unnao in June, 2017 when she went to him to ask for a job. He was arrested by the CBI in April last year in this regard.
