Bengaluru: When the Karnataka government is struggling to provide relief for the flood and rain-affected areas and families, the central government has released Rs. 1,029.39 crores as a relief for drought between October 2018 and May 2019. This amount has been sanctioned from the Natural Disaster Relief Fund. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday.

According to the sources in the state revenue department, this amount is nothing to do with the floods and landslides of August 2019. “Between October 2018 and May 2019, the state reeled under severe drought. This amount will be utilized to pay for the losses incurred,” said an officer.

“The state is likely to get relief for the flood and landslides of August only after a survey by a central team which expected to visit the state soon,” he concluded.
