A recent report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) reveals that Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, is the richest CM in India, with assets exceeding ₹931 crore. The average asset value of CMs across state assemblies and Union territories stands at ₹52.59 crore, the report highlights.

The ADR report also notes that the average self-income of a CM is ₹13,64,310, about 7.3 times the national per capita income, which was ₹1,85,854 for the year 2023-2024. In total, the combined assets of 31 CMs amount to ₹1,630 crore.

Following Naidu on the wealth list is Arunachal Pradesh’s CM, Pema Khandu, with assets worth ₹332 crore, while Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah ranks third with over ₹51 crore in assets. However, Khandu also holds the highest liabilities at ₹180 crore, with Naidu’s liabilities exceeding ₹10 crore and Siddaramaiah’s at ₹23 crore.

The ADR report also sheds light on criminal cases among CMs, revealing that 13 (42%) of them have declared criminal cases, with 10 (32%) facing serious charges including attempt to murder, kidnapping, and bribery.

In terms of educational background, 10 CMs are graduates, and two have doctorates. The report also notes that only two women—West Bengal’s Mamata Banerjee and Delhi’s Atishi—serve as chief ministers.
