Panic gripped moviegoers at a PVR cinema hall in Guwahati on Sunday night when a section of the false ceiling suddenly collapsed during the screening of the film Mahavatar Narsimha.
At least three people, including children, sustained minor injuries as debris fell onto the audience. Witnesses reported screams and confusion as parts of the overhead structure came crashing down mid-show.
Cinema staff immediately halted the screening and began a swift evacuation, assisted by mall security personnel. The injured were given first aid on-site, and all are reported to be in stable condition.
The theatre has been temporarily shut down for a structural inspection, and authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the ceiling collapse.
So far, PVR officials and mall management have not issued any official statement regarding the incident.
The mishap has raised serious concerns about cinema safety standards and maintenance protocols in public entertainment spaces.
