In a shocking incident, a Class 10 student delivered a baby boy while appearing for her board examination at a private school in Madhya Pradesh’s Dhar district, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at an examination centre located in the Pithampur Sector-1 police station area. According to police, the student was writing her Mathematics paper when she complained of severe stomach pain.
Baby born inside school washroom
The girl reportedly went to the washroom and remained inside for about 15 minutes. Concerned, the invigilator sent a female staff member to check on her. Soon after, cries of a newborn were heard from inside the toilet.
School authorities immediately informed police and the health department. An ambulance shifted the minor and the newborn to a government hospital in Pithampur.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr Anita Singhar stated that the baby was born at approximately 34 weeks of gestation and weighed around 2 kg. Both mother and child were reported to be stable.
POCSO case registered
Police said the girl’s family claimed they were unaware of the pregnancy. Taking cognisance of the matter, authorities registered a zero FIR under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and other relevant sections.
Additional Superintendent of Police Parul Belapurkar confirmed that the case has been transferred to Betma police station for further investigation.
During preliminary questioning, the minor reportedly told police she had been in a relationship for the past two years, which allegedly led to the pregnancy.
The investigation is ongoing.
