A Class 12 student of a private school allegedly fell unconscious after being assaulted by his teacher during a classroom session, prompting his parents to lodge a police complaint against the accused on Monday. The incident has once again raised concerns over corporal punishment and student safety in schools.
Incident during classroom lecture
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred on December 26 at a private school located in the Shyam Nagar police station limits. The 17-year-old student was attending a physics class when he was allegedly talking to his classmates during the lecture.
The FIR states that the physics teacher lost his temper and struck the student with a stick. The blow reportedly landed near the boy’s left eye, following which he collapsed inside the classroom, alarming fellow students and staff.
Parents approach police
The student’s father filed the FIR on Monday, accusing the teacher of physical assault that led to his son losing consciousness. Police officials said the complaint has been registered and the matter is under investigation.
Officials are examining statements from students who were present in the classroom at the time of the incident, as well as school authorities, to ascertain the sequence of events and the extent of the alleged assault.
Medical condition and school response
While police have not disclosed detailed medical findings, sources said the student received medical attention soon after the incident. His current condition has not been officially confirmed by authorities.
There has been no immediate public statement from the school management regarding the allegations. It remains unclear whether the school has initiated any internal inquiry or taken disciplinary action against the teacher.
Renewed debate on corporal punishment
The incident has reignited debate around corporal punishment in schools, which is prohibited under Indian law and various child protection guidelines. Education experts and child rights activists have repeatedly warned that physical punishment can have serious physical and psychological consequences for students.
Parents and community members have called for strict action against those found guilty and urged education authorities to ensure that schools enforce zero-tolerance policies towards violence in classrooms.
Police said further action will be taken based on medical reports and evidence collected during the investigation.
