A 12-year-old Class 7 student died under suspicious circumstances at a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) hostel located at Mittapally near Siddipet on Friday night, triggering shock and concern among parents and hostel inmates.
The deceased has been identified as Harsitha (12), a native of Kallepally village in Bejjanki mandal. She was studying and residing at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya hostel.
Fell ill, declared dead at hospital
According to preliminary information, the girl suddenly fell ill on Friday night. Hostel staff immediately rushed her to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The sudden death of the student has left fellow inmates and her family deeply distressed.
Parents allege lapses
Harsitha’s parents alleged negligence on the part of the KGBV management and held the hostel authorities responsible for their daughter’s death. They demanded a thorough inquiry into the circumstances leading to the incident.
Following the allegations, the body was shifted to the government hospital in Siddipet for postmortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Police begin investigation
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officials said statements from hostel staff and students would be recorded, and postmortem findings would be crucial in determining further action.
Authorities have assured the family that all aspects of the case will be examined carefully.
The incident has renewed concerns over student safety and medical preparedness in residential educational institutions, particularly those catering to young children from rural backgrounds.
