A 13-year-old Class 8 student in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi died after her teacher allegedly twisted her arm when she complained about another student during an examination, according to her family. Two teachers, including the accused, have since been suspended pending an inquiry.
Girl returned home with severe pain
The incident reportedly took place on August 20. The girl’s father, Umesh Dixit, said she returned home from school with severe pain and swelling in her arm.
According to her family, doctors later found internal tissue damage, nerve rupture and blood clotting. Her condition worsened despite treatment, and she died on August 30.
The family said the girl had argued with another student after asking her to show her examination paper. She then approached assistant teacher Rajendra Kumar Gangwar to complain.
Her father alleged that instead of addressing the complaint, Gangwar grabbed the girl’s arm and twisted it severely, causing the injury.
Family struggled to arrange treatment
The girl was initially taken to a local doctor in Shahabad. The family said they were told that the treatment would be expensive.
Due to financial difficulties, they initially approached the police before admitting her to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Farrukhabad on August 26.
When her condition deteriorated, the family decided to seek treatment at a private hospital. Dixit said he took a loan to arrange the medical expenses, but his daughter died despite efforts to save her.
Two teachers suspended after inquiry begins
Following the girl’s death, her body was sent for a post-mortem examination in Farrukhabad. The report is awaited and is expected to help establish the cause of death and whether her injuries were connected to her deterioration.
Dixit has filed a police complaint seeking action against the teacher and a fair investigation. He has also sought examination of her medical records and statements from teachers and students who were present at the school.
The Basic Education Department has ordered an inquiry. Block Education Officer Dr Sunil Singh visited the school, following which in-charge teacher Akshat and assistant teacher Gangwar were suspended pending the inquiry.
Police said an investigation is underway based on the family’s complaint. Further legal action will depend on the evidence and findings of the inquiry and post-mortem examination.
