COIMBATORE: A 14-year-old student, P. Kavinraj from LIC Colony, lost his life following an alleged altercation with a classmate at Government Higher Secondary School in Rasipuram, Namakkal, on Wednesday.
Around 11:15 am, Kavinraj was discovered unconscious in the school toilet during the break. Teachers rushed him to Rasipuram Government Hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
News of his death led to a protest by his family and relatives outside the hospital, causing traffic congestion. Rasipuram DSP M. Vijayakumar and revenue officials engaged with the protestors and eventually convinced them to disperse.
Police investigations revealed that Kavinraj had a prior dispute with another classmate, and a fresh altercation in the toilet may have led to his tragic collapse. Based on a teacher’s complaint, a case has been registered, and further inquiries are ongoing.
