NAMAKKAL: In a deeply saddening incident, a 13-year-old Class IX student died by suicide in her hostel room on Sunday night. The deceased, G. Krithika from Nallampally in Dharmapuri district, was staying at the SKV Educational Institution’s hostel located in Kandampalayam, near Paramathi in Namakkal district.
Krithika was the eldest daughter of V. Govindaraj, a 43-year-old farmer. She had gone home on June 26 and returned to the hostel on Sunday evening. Her father dropped her off around 7 p.m. A few hours later, when her hostel roommates returned to their room around 9 p.m., they found Krithika hanging from the ceiling.
“They immediately alerted the school staff, who informed the police,” an official from the Nallur police station stated. Officers rushed to the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for postmortem at the Namakkal Government Medical College and Hospital.
Preliminary inquiries suggest that Krithika was hesitant about returning to the hostel and continuing her education. The police have registered a case and further investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances that led to her tragic decision.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief across the school community and reignited concerns over mental health support and emotional well-being of hostel students.
