Belthangady: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa announced that the government would provide Rs 5000 as the house rent for families, which lost their houses owing to flood until they build a permanent house.
He was addressing the reporters after paying a visit to Kukkaavu bridge on Didupe Road in Belthangady taluk, which was washed away due to the heavy rain two days ago and the gruel centre at Kukkavu Higher Primary School, which has sheltered around 45 families of three villages-Kukkavu, Miittabagilu and Kadirudyavara.
Yediyurappa said, “As over 275 houses were damaged in DK district due to the rains, an immediate compensation of Rs 10,000 will be provided to each family. Houses which are partially damaged will be provided Rs 1 lakh compensation and Rs 5 lakh will be provided to those houses which are completely damaged. I will also ask Deputy Commissioner of the district to take all necessary measures to verify the details of crop loss and other properties to provide compensation to them”.
Meanwhile, locals in the area took media and NDRF team to task for not extending their help when the Kukkavu bridge submerged. Ashfaq, a local resident informed that when the locals are in distress, neither the NDRF team nor media had come to help them. ” But, when Chief Minister Yediyurappa has come now, NDRF team is posing. Media also did not respond to our grievances. Many people are stranded in Charmadi and Kukkavu – Didupe area”, he lamented.
When Yediyurappa visited the rain-affected areas in Belthangady, MLA Hareesh Poonja, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Deputy Commissioner S Sasikanth Senthil, ZP CEO Selvamani DHO M Ramakrishna Rao among others were present.
