In a harrowing incident near Coimbatore International Airport, a 20-year-old college student who was allegedly gang-raped in a deserted area between November 2 and 3 sought refuge in a residential neighbourhood after escaping her assailants.

According to witnesses, the survivor scaled the compound wall of a house in Brindhavan Nagar around 4 a.m. on November 3, desperately seeking help from residents.

Desperate Search for Safety

Neighbours recalled that the young woman first knocked repeatedly on a front door but got no response as the residents were asleep. When the calling bell failed to work, she pressed a motor switch in a desperate attempt to alert them.

Unable to get help, she climbed an open staircase to the terrace, crossing into the verandah of an adjacent first-floor house. The startled residents, seeing the distressed woman, immediately called their neighbours for assistance.

“You Are Safe Here” — Residents Comfort the Survivor

“The girl was in a panic state beyond words,” said one resident who helped her.
“She said she was fleeing from three persons who had assaulted her boyfriend on vacant land nearby. The first thing I told her was — You are safe here. Nobody will harm you.

A woman from the neighbourhood provided the survivor with a change of clothes, while others gave her water and emotional support. The girl also called her mother using one of the residents’ phones.

Police and Locals Join Rescue Effort

Hearing her account, two men from the neighbourhood rushed to the vacant land near Brindhavan Nagar, where her boyfriend was reportedly assaulted. They found police personnel already at the scene, who had been searching for the survivor since 11:45 p.m. with a team of nearly 100 officers.

Upon receiving the update from the locals, the police rushed to the house and took the survivor to a private hospital nearby.

Accused Arrested After Encounter

Police later confirmed that three men accused in the case were arrested after being shot in the legs when they allegedly tried to escape custody. The accused were taken to hospital for treatment and are currently under police surveillance.

Officials said that the area, once known as a hangout for anti-social elements, has now become a focus point in the ongoing investigation
