A 20-year-old student in Banaskantha district endured repeated sexual assault by seven individuals, who allegedly blackmailed her using a private video, police revealed.
The crime surfaced when an FIR was lodged on March 11, after the victim’s family learned about the incident through a viral WhatsApp video. One of the perpetrators had secretly recorded the woman while she was changing clothes, later using the footage to coerce her into submission.
Between November 2023 and February 2025, she was assaulted multiple times at different locations. The original blackmailer later shared the video with his friend, which eventually spread within a social media group, worsening her ordeal.
A community panchayat was convened to resolve the matter, but when no action was taken, her family approached law enforcement.
Banaskantha SP Akshayraj Makwana stated that the police have launched a manhunt to arrest all the accused. The case has been registered under rape laws and the Information Technology Act.
Authorities urge victims of cyber harassment and abuse to report such crimes immediately.
