Udaipur, Aug 16: Communal tensions erupted in Madhuban, Udaipur, on Friday after a Class 10 student was stabbed by a fellow student at a government-run school. The attacker has been detained by police.

The stabbing led to immediate unrest as members of Hindu right-wing groups gathered in the area. The situation escalated when they set fire to at least three cars and engaged in stone pelting. In response to the violence, prohibitory orders under Section 144 were imposed, banning large gatherings and aiming to restore order.

“The city is on high alert, and additional police forces have been deployed to manage the situation,” said Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal. “We are using mild force to disperse the crowd and ensure safety.”

The victim is in critical condition, having been moved from the operation theatre to the intensive care unit (ICU) for further monitoring. Local political leaders have visited the hospital to support the victim’s family and address the public.

Udaipur District Collector has appealed for peace, urging residents to avoid violence and trust in the legal process. “We are committed to controlling the situation and ensuring justice is served,” added Goyal.

The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the stabbing. The community remains tense as authorities work to restore calm and address the underlying issues contributing to the unrest.
