A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) during his Independence Day address, senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad launched a sharp attack on the organisation, calling it the “Indian Taliban.”

Speaking to ANI, the former Rajya Sabha MP said, “They (RSS) are trying to disturb peace in the country. I will equate RSS with Taliban. They are Indian Taliban, and the PM is appreciating them from the Red Fort.”

Hariprasad also questioned the financial transparency of the Sangh, alleging it is not registered as required by law. “Was there any Sanghi who participated in the freedom struggle? It’s shameful that RSS is not a registered organisation. We don’t know where they get their funds. Every NGO working in the country must be registered under the Constitution,” he added.

He further accused the BJP and RSS of distorting historical facts to suit their narrative. According to him, it was Bengal’s then Prime Minister AK Fazlul Huq who introduced the first resolution for Partition, with Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee also being part of it. “BJP and RSS are masters of twisting history. It was Fazlul Huq and Mookerjee who supported Partition. Jinnah and Savarkar too argued for separate states. Now they are blaming Congress for it,” Hariprasad claimed.

His remarks came in response to Modi’s praise, where the PM described RSS as the “biggest NGO in the world,” crediting its century-long dedication to the welfare of the nation.
