As the counting for the Delhi Assembly elections progresses, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate firmly stated that it is not Congress’ responsibility to ensure AAP’s victory. In an interview with NDTV, Shrinate clarified that while Congress focuses on building its own political strength in areas with potential, it will not work to boost AAP’s chances. “Our job is to run a strong campaign in areas where we have historical influence, not to ensure the AAP wins,” she emphasized, pointing out that Congress has been a dominant force in Delhi for 15 years.
Shrinate further noted that the AAP’s performance in states like Goa and Uttarakhand showed that the vote shares of Congress and AAP were similar, implying that if AAP had not been involved, the BJP might have been defeated. She expressed frustration with the failure of the opposition alliance, INDIA, which was formed to challenge BJP dominance but has struggled, especially in state elections since its inception in June 2023.
The ongoing political rift between Congress and AAP, previously allies in the INDIA bloc, was evident as both sides took jabs at each other, with Rahul Gandhi criticizing Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP over various issues. Despite these tensions, Shrinate maintained that Congress would continue to criticize poor governance, regardless of the party in question.
