Kollam (Kerala): The district police have apprehended a couple for allegedly robbing her 85-year-old maternal grandmother of gold jewelry on Saturday.

Parvathy and Sarath, both in their late twenties, were arrested by East police from Thiruvananthapuram following a complaint by Yashoda, the elderly woman from Uliyakovil.

According to police sources, Parvathy, who had been residing with her grandmother, was familiar with the whereabouts of her gold ornaments and cash.

The incident occurred on Thursday when the accused tied the elderly woman’s hands and forcibly took her gold ornaments, as stated by police reports. Additionally, they broke open her almirah and stole Rs 25,000 in cash.

Following the grandmother’s complaint, authorities initiated a search for the couple and apprehended them on Friday in Kazhakkoottam, a neighboring area of Thiruvananthapuram. They were subsequently remanded, police confirmed.
