Lucknow: A young couple from Hardoi were found dead in a guest house in Lucknow after staying there for nearly 20 days, with police recovering a marriage certificate and a suicide note from the room. The investigation also revealed that a kidnapping case had been registered involving the woman.

Couple had stayed in guest house since August 23

The deceased were identified as 22-year-old Amit Kumar and 19-year-old Nargis, also known as Pooja. According to police, they had been staying in room number 101 of a guest house in the Chinhat area since August 23.

The guest house operator alerted police on the night of September 9 after the couple was found dead inside the room. Police reached the spot and shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination. A Forensic Science Laboratory team also examined the scene and collected evidence.

Marriage certificate adds another layer to probe

Police recovered a certificate from an Arya Samaj temple indicating that Amit and Nargis had married. The document reportedly identifies the woman as Nargis alias Pooja.

A suicide note was also recovered, although police have not disclosed its contents. Investigators are examining the note, marriage certificate and other evidence to establish what led to the deaths.

Kidnapping case discovered during family inquiry

The investigation took another turn when police contacted the couple’s families in Hardoi. Officers learnt that a kidnapping case had been registered at Harpalpur police station involving Nargis.

Police are now examining the circumstances surrounding the couple’s disappearance from their homes, their marriage and their subsequent stay in Lucknow. Officials have said the investigation will consider all available evidence before drawing conclusions.

The case comes amid wider concerns surrounding unexplained deaths and relationship-related distress. News Karnataka has previously reported similar cases involving couples and investigations into deaths in private accommodation, including a Bengaluru couple death case and a homestay death case in Karnataka.

Authorities have urged against speculation while the forensic examination and police investigation continue. The exact circumstances and reasons behind the deaths are yet to be established.
