A tragic discovery was made at Kodolipram in Mattanur when 58-year-old Babu of Gokulam House and his 55-year-old wife Sajitha were found hanging in their residence around noon. Babu was found hanging inside the bedroom, while Sajitha was found suspended from the fan in the hall. The chair that Sajitha had used to climb up was missing.
Only the couple was at home at the time; their daughter and son were away visiting their respective in-laws. When the house remained locked past noon, neighbors alerted their son, Subijith. Upon arriving with a spare key, he found the couple in the tragic state.
Babu, who had returned to India about ten years ago after living abroad, was reportedly under stress due to a bank loan of approximately Rs 25 lakh, including interest. Locals said this financial burden had caused him worry.
Police officers, led by Mattanur Sub-Inspector C P Linesh, responded swiftly to the scene. The forensic team from Kannur also conducted a thorough inspection of the house to gather evidence.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community as authorities investigate further.
