Health authorities in Alappuzha district have ramped up monitoring across government healthcare facilities following a noticeable spike in Covid-19 infections. More than 200 individuals have tested positive during this fresh outbreak, prompting immediate enforcement of preventive measures and reinforced protocols.

At Alappuzha Medical College Hospital and several taluk-level hospitals, access has been tightened. Only one caretaker is allowed per patient, and all visitors must wear masks. Anyone displaying symptoms such as fever or suspected of being infected will be barred from entry as a precautionary measure.

Dedicated Covid treatment units have been reactivated at the Medical College Hospital. Additionally, key hospitals have designated nodal officers to streamline pandemic response operations. Individuals with symptoms will initially undergo rapid antigen tests. If results are inconclusive or negative, RT-PCR testing will follow for confirmation, health officials clarified.

Alongside the Covid resurgence, the district’s medical authorities have sounded a public health warning about other seasonal illnesses. Residents have been cautioned against rat fever (leptospirosis), dengue, and various diseases linked to contaminated water sources, all of which are seeing a rise due to monsoon conditions.

The health department is urging the public to maintain hygiene, wear masks in crowded areas, and seek medical attention promptly if symptoms arise. Authorities are also intensifying sanitation drives in vulnerable areas to curb the spread of infections.
