Madhya Pradesh: Three persons, including a Muslim man and a Muslim woman, were thrashed by self-proclaimed ‘gau rakshaks’ (cow vigilantes) as they were suspected of carrying beef in Seoni of Madhya Pradesh.

A video of the assault went viral and the goons were seen beating the victims mercilessly. The accused held the youth to a tree and beat them up as onlookers gathered.

The incident reportedly occurred on May 22, but the police found out about it on May 24, when the clip went viral. The police said that they arrested all the five accused, who beat up the victims with sticks.

Ram Sena Leader Shubham Baghel was named as one of the accused by the police. “We came to know that Shubham Baghel stopped one woman and two men yesterday. Baghel, along with four to five of his friends, had beaten up the men. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media,” a police official said, adding that a case has been registered against all of the accused. He also informed that five people were arrested.

“They will all be sent to judicial remand soon,” ANI quoted the officer as saying.

According to the officer, Baghel had previously been booked for his involvement in other similar cases.
