Crack down on potential gang clashes and drug use at parties in Thiruvananthapuram
The police in Thiruvananthapuram have stepped up their efforts to prevent gang clashes and illegal activities at Christmas and New Year celebrations in the city. Acting on intelligence reports, authorities have started issuing notices to hotels hosting DJ parties and other events, warning them to adhere to strict guidelines.
Authorities became concerned after learning that individuals with criminal backgrounds might attend these celebrations. Their fears were further fueled by an incident last week when notorious gang leader Om Prakash caused disruption at a DJ party hosted by Danny, the son of another infamous gang leader, Sajan. This incident prompted the police to impose restrictions on DJ parties in the city.
To curb potential violence and illegal activity, the police have outlined several conditions for event organizers. These include providing information about party sponsors, installing CCTV cameras along the routes to the venue, documenting attendee details, and ensuring that no individuals with criminal records are allowed entry. In addition, random inspections using drug detection kits will be conducted during parties. If drugs or any conflict-related incidents are detected, legal action will be taken against both the organizers and the venue.
With reports of widespread drug use, including substances like MDMA, and their connection to drug cartels, the police are enlisting the help of specialized units such as the Excise Department’s striking force to carry out thorough checks. This proactive approach is aimed at ensuring a safe and law-abiding celebration for the city’s residents.
