New Delhi: A pizza delivery worker was allegedly looted by a crowd near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Friday after a group of people surrounded him and snatched several pizza boxes before fleeing. A video of the incident has since surfaced and reached the Delhi Police.
The incident reportedly occurred at Tolstoy Chowk, close to Jantar Mantar, where the delivery worker was intercepted by a crowd. The viral video shows people grabbing pizza boxes from the worker while he appeared unable to stop them. The crowd dispersed shortly afterwards.
Police receive video, no complaint yet
Delhi Police confirmed that it has received the video of the incident and is looking into the matter. However, officials said that no written complaint had been filed by the delivery worker or any other party at the time of reporting.
Police also clarified that the incident took place on Friday and that investigations would proceed based on available evidence and any complaint received.
Food delivery services continue in New Delhi
The incident comes amid restrictions imposed under Section 163 in parts of New Delhi due to the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest near Jantar Mantar.
Delhi Police clarified that while food delivery services have been regulated in the area for security and traffic management, there is no ban on online food delivery platforms. Authorities said delivery services continue to operate normally in the New Delhi district.
Akhilesh Yadav criticises restrictions
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav criticised the regulation of food delivery services around the protest site, describing it as “foodbandi” in a post on X.
Referring to the restrictions, Yadav wrote, “Roti mat chhino! (Notebandi ke baad Foodbandi),” alleging that authorities were depriving people of access to food while attempting to maintain law and order in the national capital.
