New Delhi: With Cyclone Fani in the Bay of Bengal changing course on Monday, April 29, the southern parts of India are spared from the heavy downpours with gusty winds thus giving a sigh of relief to the people of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted heavy rains in these areas because of the cyclone.

IMD, in its bulletin released today, said that it would not affect TN and AP, however it is expected to hit Odisha, as the winds are intensifying and moving towards north-west.

It has said the wind was travelling towards the north-west at a speed of 4 kmph.

However, the department has said that due to gusty winds moving towards Odisha, heavy downpour is expected in several parts of southern states and moderate rainfall in isolated parts of Kerala, north coastal TN and south coastal AP, on April 29 and 30.

Meanwhile, north coastal AP and south coastal Odisha may get moderate rainfall on May 2 while isolated areas of coastal Odisha and north coastal AP and coastal region of West Bengal on May 3.

IMD has warned of the wind speed increasing from 100 kmph to 185 kmph by May 1.

The fishermen and women have been advised against deep sea fishing. Those already fishing have been asked to return to the shores, immediately.
