A Class 6 Dalit student from a government school in Koliyanur, Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, underwent surgery for nerve damage after allegedly being beaten by his physical education teacher, Sengeni. The incident occurred on March 14, after the teacher intervened in a fight between two students and resorted to physical punishment.

Shortly after the beating, the 11-year-old boy began vomiting and lost consciousness. He was initially taken to Villupuram Government Hospital and later shifted to JIPMER, Puducherry, for advanced care, where he was placed in the ICU and underwent surgery.

Outraged by the incident, the boy’s family and local supporters staged protests demanding justice. Authorities responded swiftly, suspending the accused teacher and transferring the school’s headmistress, Jothilakshmi. A further investigation is underway.
