Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old man and impounded his SUV after a video showing reckless driving on a busy stretch of National Highway-48 drew official attention, police officials said.
Chief Minister confirms FIR
Responding to the incident, Rekha Gupta said an FIR had been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act at Samaypur Badli police station. She added that the offending Scorpio vehicle had been seized and the driver taken into custody.
Reckless manoeuvres on busy road
According to Delhi Police, the incident occurred on January 18 between 3 pm and 4 pm on the GT Karnal Bypass Road towards Narela. The footage showed a black Scorpio-N with tinted windows being driven in a zigzag manner, posing a serious threat to other road users.
Driver identified, vehicle seized
Police identified the driver as Daud Ansari (21), a resident of Okhla. The SUV was found to be registered in the name of his father, Musafir Ansari. The accused’s driving licence has been taken into custody as part of the legal process.
After reviewing the video and other evidence, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the BNS for rash and negligent driving endangering human life, along with sections of the Motor Vehicles Act. A police team intercepted the vehicle shortly after the incident came to notice.
Police issue safety warning
Officials said the manner of driving showed complete disregard for public safety. Further investigation is underway, and police have reiterated that strict action will be taken against anyone found endangering lives on Delhi’s roads.
