The Tourism Destination Centre near Manikyamangalam Thura has remained plunged in darkness for over a week, leaving evening visitors disheartened and raising serious safety concerns. The absence of functioning lights has forced many regulars—including families, walkers, and users of the open gym—to stop visiting the once-bustling evening spot after sunset.
According to Shyjan Thottappilly, President of the local panchayat, the problem started after a fire damaged the centre’s electrical panel board. Although ₹13,000 has already been deposited with the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) for replacing the damaged panel, no repairs have been carried out so far.
Thottappilly accused KSEB officials of neglecting the issue despite repeated requests. Frustrated by the inaction, the Manikyamangalam Friends Collective staged a protest, demanding swift restoration of the lighting system to ensure public safety and accessibility.
Visitors and local residents continue to express disappointment over the delay, highlighting how a cherished community space has been rendered unusable due to administrative apathy.
