Singrauli: A 14-year-old deaf-and-mute girl with learning disabilities was allegedly raped by a 40-year-old man in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh, police said.

Girl allegedly assaulted near school

The incident reportedly took place on August 22 in a village under Morwa police station limits.

According to police, the survivor’s mother said the girl had gone outside the house around noon. At about 1.00 pm, another girl from the neighbourhood informed her that a man identified as Ujagir Lal Yadav had allegedly taken her daughter behind a school and sexually assaulted her.

The girl was later found by her mother in a traumatised condition.

Accused arrested after search

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act.

Police launched an investigation and began searching for the accused.

Acting on information that Yadav was allegedly attempting to flee, police cordoned off the area and arrested him the same night.

Accused sent to judicial custody

Morwa police station in-charge Gyanendra Singh said the accused was produced before a court, which sent him to jail on Sunday.

A detailed investigation into the allegations and circumstances surrounding the case is underway.
