New Delhi: Indian Air Force (IAF) has advised India’s first three women fighter pilots to refrain from motherhood for the next four years.
An official from IAF clarified that, the advisory is not legally binding and it was to ensure their own professional growth and so that their training does not get affected.
Bhawana Kanth, Mohana Singh and Avani Chaturvedi are the trainees who are qualified. They would be undergoing training for a year and India would get its first women fighter pilots on June 18, 2017.
The three trainees would be flying Hawk advanced jet trainers at Bidar in Karnataka in June 2016, before getting into a warplane.
The Defence Ministry, had announced last year its decision to include women in combat arms, beginning with the IAF. Six female cadets were competing in which only three of them were selected.
