New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar jail on Sunday as his interim bail, granted by the Supreme Court in a case linked to the excise policy and money laundering, concluded on June 1. The bail had been granted to facilitate his campaigning during the Lok Sabha elections.

Before his surrender, Kejriwal paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, offered prayers at the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place, and addressed leaders and workers of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at the party office.

During his address, Kejriwal said, “I am returning to jail not because of corruption but because I stood up against dictatorship.” He reflected on the significance of the 21-day bail period granted by the Supreme Court, stating that every moment was utilized for the campaign aimed at safeguarding the nation’s interests.

Regarding the exit polls predicting a third term for the BJP-led NDA, Kejriwal dismissed them as “fake” and urged AAP workers not to be swayed by them. He reassured them that the government formation on June 4 would not align with the exit poll projections, characterizing them as attempts to manipulate public perception.

Ahead of Kejriwal’s arrival at Tihar jail, security measures were heightened, with restricted traffic movement in the vicinity and increased deployment of police personnel.
