Delhi: The Special Investigating Team (SIT) report on Friday July 15 revealed that Social Activist Teesta Setalvad, Former State Director General of Police (DGP), R. B. Sreekumar, and Former IPS Officer Sanjeev Bhatt accepted Rs. 30 lakh from Ahmed Patel, the political advisor of the then-Congress President Sonia Gandhi to allegedly frame Former Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and overthrow his government after the 2002 Gujarat riots.

The SIT was formed to look into allegations of criminal conspiracy and forgery against R. B. Sreekumar and Setalvad. The duo’s bail request was challenged in court by SIT’s ACP B. C. Solanki’s Special Public Prosecutors Mitesh Amin and Amit Patel, who claimed that the accused had joined a bigger conspiracy with the aim of getting illegal money and other benefits from Congress.

It can be recalled that Setalvad and Sreekumar were sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a metropolitan court in Ahmedabad on July 2. The Crime Branch of the Ahmedabad Police arrested Former IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt on Tuesday July 13 in connection with the Gujarat riots case for embezzling funds and forging documents.

According to the SIT affidavit, the accused met with Patel several times and received Rs. 5 lakh initially and Rs. 25 lakh after two days. In 2020, Ahmed Patel passed away.

Netizens have taken this issue on social media platforms voicing their opinions with #TeestaSetalvad.

“SIT probing Gujarat riots exposed how evidence were fabricated to plot and malign the then CM @narendramodi Ji. Gandhi family was behind this huge conspiracy and for that it even gave Padma award to #TeestaSetalvad. Satyamev Jayate – Truth alone Wins,” said BJP’s Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

Another user said that Teesta received Rs. 30 lakh from Ahmed Patel, got Padma Shri for her campaign against Narendra Modi after Gujarat Riots. “Teesta Setalvad wanted to exploit #GujaratRiots to achieve her political ambition of becoming a Rajya Sabha member,” he added.

“The saddest part is that most of the people who supported #TeestaSetalvad knew exactly what she was doing. And they played along. Many got rewarded for it in various ways. This is just the tip of the iceberg. The rot goes deep,” was a response from another user.

A user said that Teesta Setalvad, Sreekumar, Sanjiv Bhatt all were hitmen of the Congress party. “They meticulously executed Congress sinister plot to defame Modi. The motivated tirade by planting fake charges was done to destroy Modi. Bad karma always bite. Now nears toward Congress mukt bharat,” he said.
