New Delhi: A 64-year-old man and his friend have been arrested for allegedly killing his 38-year-old son, who was living with schizophrenia, in southeast Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj, police said.
The deceased was identified as Gul Hasan. His father, Talukdar Ansari, allegedly told investigators that Hasan had schizophrenia and had become aggressive in recent months. Ansari reportedly said he was frustrated by his son’s behaviour and was unable to arrange proper treatment for him.
Ansari’s friend, Mohammad Wasim alias Akram, 49, has also been arrested. Both men work as tailors.
Father allegedly plans son’s killing
According to police, Ansari and Wasim allegedly planned the killing several days before the incident. Investigators said Ansari told them that Hasan had attacked him and other family members.
Police allege that the two men took Hasan to an abandoned container near the NTPC wall in Kalindi Kunj on the pretext of taking him to a doctor.
Once they reached the secluded location, Wasim allegedly struck Hasan with a stone, after which Ansari also assaulted him. Police said Hasan was then strangled with a rope made from cloth waste.
Body found near abandoned container
The case came to light on August 23 when police received information around 7.13 pm about the body of an unidentified man inside an abandoned container.
An injury mark was found on Hasan’s head, while a concrete stone with apparent bloodstains was recovered nearby. CCTV analysis later helped investigators trace Hasan’s movements and identify the two suspects accompanying him.
The suspects were subsequently traced to a stitching factory in Govindpuri and arrested on Friday afternoon.
Police recover alleged murder weapons
Police said the suspects had initially planned to push Hasan into the Yamuna but abandoned the plan after finding people near the river.
Investigators also said Ansari bought samosas for Hasan on the way to the isolated location to keep him unsuspecting.
The concrete stone, cloth rope and bloodstained clothes allegedly connected to the killing have been recovered, police said.
The case has once again highlighted the difficult circumstances faced by families caring for people with serious mental health conditions, while the investigation into the alleged killing continues.
