A Delhi-to-Goa IndiGo flight (6E 6271) was forced to make an emergency landing at Mumbai Airport on Tuesday night following an engine-related malfunction mid-air. The Airbus A320neo aircraft, bearing registration VT-IZB, landed safely at 9:53 pm IST, with 191 passengers onboard, and no injuries reported.

The flight, originally en route to Goa’s Manohar International Airport, encountered the issue while flying approximately 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar, according to Mumbai airport officials. Around 9:27 pm, the pilot issued a “PAN PAN PAN” alert, indicating a technical emergency that wasn’t life-threatening.

Minutes later, the flight crew requested diversion to Mumbai, where firefighters and ambulances were kept on standby. The plane landed two minutes ahead of its scheduled arrival time.

An IndiGo spokesperson clarified that the emergency was triggered by a technical snag in engine number 1. “As per safety protocols, the aircraft was diverted to Mumbai. A replacement aircraft was arranged for passengers to continue their journey,” the airline added.

The aircraft is now undergoing technical checks and maintenance before being cleared for service again. IndiGo extended apologies for the inconvenience and reiterated that passenger safety remains their top priority.

This incident follows increased scrutiny on flight safety, especially in light of the recent Air India investigation regarding fuel control system failures.
