Students from government schools in Delhi are set to embark on a unique dual vocational training programme in Germany, designed to equip them with advanced technical skills and valuable work experience. This initiative, spearheaded by the Delhi Government in collaboration with the Goethe Institute and leading German industries, targets students who have completed their class 12 education.
The ‘APAL’ project, which focuses on establishing training partnerships with schools in Latin America, India, and Uzbekistan, provides an opportunity for young individuals from selected countries to engage in a comprehensive 3.5-year vocational training programme in Germany. This programme is conducted in collaboration with prominent German industries, ensuring that participants receive world-class training and exposure to international work environments.
An orientation session for this initiative was held at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in West Vinod Nagar on Tuesday. AAP leader Manish Sisodia expressed pride in the programme’s progress, stating, “I feel proud that the step we took two years ago in partnership with the German Embassy has reached the stage where German industry is willing to invite our students.” Sisodia highlighted the programme’s potential to enhance the quality of education for children in government schools and to open up global opportunities for them.
The first cohort of students, expected to include around 30 to 40 participants, is set to join the ‘APAL’ project, marking a significant milestone in the initiative.
The collaboration between the Delhi Government and German partners was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed two years ago. This partnership aims to introduce the German language into ‘Schools of Specialised Excellence,’ further enriching the educational landscape. Currently, German is taught in 30 Delhi government schools, benefiting approximately 4,500 students.
This vocational training programme not only promises to enhance the skill sets of Delhi’s youth but also positions them advantageously in the global job market. By providing access to advanced training and exposure to German industries, the initiative represents a vital step towards fostering international collaboration and improving educational outcomes for students in government schools.
