New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has directed the Centre to make a decision within a week on the travel request of the mother of a Kerala woman sentenced to death in Yemen. Nimisha Priya, a nurse in Yemen, was convicted of murdering a Yemini national. The court was informed that the Yemeni Supreme Court dismissed Priya’s appeal on November 13.
The mother seeks permission to travel to Yemen despite the ban on Indian nationals, aiming to negotiate “blood money” to save her daughter. The term refers to compensation paid by an offender’s family to the victim’s family. The court cited a recent relaxation in travel bans for specific reasons and durations.
