On Wednesday evening, heavy rainfall wreaked havoc across Delhi, inundating large sections of the city. Major roads were gridlocked with persistent traffic, leaving many people stranded as streets were submerged.
The intense downpour prompted the weather office to list Delhi as an “area of concern” in the National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin. Residents have been advised to stay indoors, secure their windows and doors, and avoid non-essential travel. The IMD has issued a ‘red alert’ for Delhi for the next 24 hours due to the heavy rains. In response, the Delhi government has announced the closure of all schools for Thursday due to the severe weather conditions.
