
Delhi issues alert amid rise in Covid-19 cases, urges hospital readiness
The Delhi government on Friday released a directive concerning Covid-19, instructing hospitals in the capital to maintain adequate stocks of beds, oxygen, medications, and vaccines.
On Wednesday in Mumbai, an instructor at Gurukul School of Art created a Covid-19 awareness painting to educate the public.
Delhi’s Health Minister Pankaj Singh announced that 23 new Covid infections have surfaced in the city. Authorities are currently investigating whether these patients are local residents or have recent travel backgrounds.
This advisory arrives as countries like China, Thailand, and Singapore report increasing Covid cases in recent weeks.
All healthcare facilities have been mandated to send positive Covid samples to Lok Nayak Hospital for genome sequencing.
“Hospitals must ensure readiness by having beds, oxygen supplies, antibiotics, other essential drugs, and vaccines available. Equipment including ventilators, Bi-PAP machines, oxygen concentrators, and PSA units must be fully operational,” the notice stated.
The health department also emphasized daily reporting of all relevant data through the Delhi state health data management portal.
Across India, mild Covid cases are emerging in several states. The Union health ministry confirmed 257 fresh cases nationwide on Wednesday.
Maharashtra recorded 56 new infections, Tamil Nadu 66, with additional cases reported in Puducherry, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Haryana, Karnataka, and West Bengal.
Kerala’s Health Minister Veena George reported 273 cases in May, with Kottayam and Thiruvananthapuram seeing the highest numbers.
Haryana logged four mild cases on Friday, with patients under home quarantine. Health Minister Arti Singh Rao assured citizens there is no cause for alarm and monitoring continues.
A May 19 review by top health experts confirmed India’s Covid situation is stable, with most active cases being mild and not requiring hospitalization.
