New Delhi: Delhi is all set to soar into a new era of leisure aviation as the city officially launches its first-ever hot-air balloon rides on Saturday, 29 November 2025. The initiative, led by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), follows multiple successful trial flights conducted this week at Baansera Park along the Yamuna floodplains.
Hot-air ballooning to debut at four major locations
The new recreational service will be rolled out in phases across four DDA-managed sites:
- Baansera Park
- Asita (first to open to the public)
- Yamuna Sports Complex
- Commonwealth Games Village Sports Complex
The balloon ascends up to 120 feet, offering sweeping views of the Yamuna riverfront, green landscapes and Delhi’s expanding skyline. Early testers, including NDTV, described the experience as smooth, scenic and uniquely peaceful compared to other aerial activities.
LG Saxena calls it a “first-of-its-kind experience”
Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, who reviewed the trial flight, called the venture a landmark move for the capital. He praised the DDA for launching a safe, professionally managed adventure activity in the heart of the city.
In a social media post, he noted that the rides are operated by qualified experts and follow the highest safety protocols.
“This recreational and adventure activity marks another step towards making Delhi a vibrant city with world-class amenities,” he wrote.
Ticket prices, opening schedule and expansion plan
The balloon rides will open to the public on 29 November, starting at Asita. The expected ticket price is around ₹3,000 + GST per person.
The service will gradually expand over the following days to:
- Baansera
- Yamuna Sports Complex
- CWG Village Sports Complex
Officials said the expansion plan aims to make ballooning a regular attraction along the Yamuna riverfront, turning the area into a multi-use recreational zone.
What riders can expect
Each ride promises a 360-degree panoramic view of Delhi, making it a major draw for families, tourists and adventure seekers. The experience includes:
- Controlled elevation for stability
- Strict safety checks before each flight
- Scenic aerial views of parks, riverbanks and city landmarks
- Professional supervision and secure cabin design
DDA officials stated that the activity is part of a larger urban rejuvenation plan to transform the Yamuna corridor into a vibrant recreational hub.
Delhi joins global ballooning destinations
With this launch, the national capital joins cities around the world that offer urban hot-air ballooning experiences, positioning Delhi as a destination for curated aerial tourism. The initiative is expected to boost local tourism and expand Delhi’s portfolio of city-based adventure activities.
