New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the complete restoration of services across its network, with all Metro stations now open for both entry and exit after temporary restrictions were imposed due to heightened security during nationwide protests over the alleged NEET paper leak.
In a post on X on Sunday, the DMRC confirmed that normal operations had resumed across the network, bringing relief to lakhs of daily commuters who were affected by the temporary closures in parts of Central Delhi.
Metro services return to normal
The restoration follows a phased reopening of key Metro stations over the weekend. On Saturday evening, the DMRC reopened entry gates at Janpath Metro station. Earlier, entry services had also resumed at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat stations, signalling a gradual return to normal operations.
Authorities had imposed restrictions as student protests intensified near Jantar Mantar, demanding strict action over the alleged NEET paper leak and examination irregularities.
Eighteen stations were temporarily affected
At the peak of the security arrangements, the DMRC had temporarily suspended entry and exit services at 18 Metro stations. These included Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan and New Delhi.
The restrictions were introduced to ensure public safety as large-scale demonstrations took place across the national capital.
Pradhan resigns amid nationwide protests
The Metro services resumed fully shortly after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned following nationwide protests linked to the alleged NEET paper leak controversy.
In his resignation statement, Pradhan said he was deeply distressed by the developments of the past 10 days and stepped down to ensure that anti-national forces did not exploit the situation surrounding the examination controversy.
With all stations now functioning normally, the Delhi Metro network has resumed full passenger services, easing travel across the national capital after the security-related disruptions.
